Round White Opal Drops Held in a Plain Gold-Tone Bezel

Each earring is a single round opal cabochon, white at first glance and then shot through with green, pink and blue as the light moves. The bezel around it is deliberately plain: a smooth gold-tone rim with no stone work and no pattern, which leaves the opal to do the whole job. The wire runs straight out of the top of that rim.

The hook is fixed rather than hinged, so the drop hangs close to the lobe and sits nearly flush with the ear. There is no separate back to lose. They are small enough to wear through a working day and warm enough in tone to sit against cream and camel knitwear in autumn.
