An Opal Turtle Pendant With the Shell Set in Panels

The shell is divided the way a real carapace is, into a ring of outer plates around larger central ones, and each panel is set as its own piece of opal between raised silver-tone ridges. The head, flippers and tail are cast solid and polished smooth, so the eye goes straight to the shell. The opal is flecked rather than flat and shifts as it turns.

It hangs from a fine chain through a rounded bail behind the head, which keeps the turtle lying flat against the collarbone. Five shell colours run from deep green through blue and purple to a soft pink and a milky white, so it works as a gift even when you half know someone's taste.
